How a Thoughtful Gift Became a Business

Hi, and welcome to our website and our first blog! We are Roman Metalworks; A small husband and wife run metal fab shop nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

We have both enjoyed nature and birdwatching for over 20 years, and I have had a love for photography since I was about 12 years old when I received my first camera as a Christmas gift. It was only a little Kodak 110, but it started a hobby that I have never been able put down! I've learned a lot about photography over the years and graduated to some much nicer cameras since then. I especially love to photograph birds and nature. My husband has been in the metalworking business for over 30 years. As a side project he designed, cut and painted our first bird, a Great Horned Owl, as a gift for me in 2019.

That first owl motivated us to design more birds. So, our second bird was one of our favorites, a pileated woodpecker. We loved them so much, we thought other nature lovers would love them too. So, we decided to open an Etsy store. People loved our birds! We were so excited! And that's how Roman Metalworks began.

Over the last few years, we've added many new birds to our collection. We've even done several custom designs. We also chose to use powder coating for a more durable and lasting finish. Our goal is to make a high-quality product that's not only beautiful and unique but that will last, giving our customers years of enjoyment!
